The Hidden Thief

The hidden thief : You work hard to ensure your facility is operating at max capacity, and your employees are efficient and safe. Your company appreciates your hard work because it’s your actions that protect their product, their people and their profit margins, but, what if I told you that you’re making one small mistake and it’s costing you thousands of dollars each year? What if I told you that your concrete floors are sucking the money right out of your pocket?

As you look down at the concrete floors in your facility, unless they are shiny and new, you’ll notice that they are cracking, that joints have begun to break down from heavy forklifts constantly rolling over them, and the weight of heavy product bearing down on them. You could very well think nothing of it; after all, it’s not THAT bad.

Ignoring your concrete floors is an easy mistake to make, unless you look at the numbers. Each crack, each damaged joint is costing your company money, and not just a little bit. Every time a fork lift has to slow down to roll over a flaw in your floor, your bottom line pays the price. It has been estimated that for each employee transporting product in your warehouse that has to slow, even for just a few seconds, to pass over a crack or eroded joint in your floor, will cost you anywhere from $100-150 dollars per year. This may seem like no big deal, until you multiply that number by the amount of employees you have running your product.

If we take the conservative side of that estimate and say that each employee slowing down over that crack everyday for a year will cost you $100 and you have 3 shifts a day, 4 employees a shift, that means that each year ONE crack will cost you about $1,200.00. Now reality sets in and you realize that you have more than just one flaw in your concrete floor that your employees have to slow down to cross. Once you start multiplying that $1,200.00 by every crack in your floor, the total can be shocking. Fixing your floors professionally will only cost you a small fraction of that amount.

This scenario doesn’t take into account the damage that is caused to your vehicles and machinery having to travel over concrete that has begun to break down. It doesn’t take into account the product that is lost when a box overturns as a forklift rolls over a worn joint too quickly. It doesn’t take into account workers comp claims for injuries caused by concrete floors that have not been repaired. The list continues and the costs grow out of control.

It’s easy to overlook the thief that hides in plain sight, just under your feet. Don’t become a victim, take action. Continue to take care of your company by protecting your profit margin, your people and your facility, repair your concrete floors.
